1.8Million Pounds

£1.8M TO IMPROVE OUR SCHOOL BUILDINGS

Bedford Borough Council has provided funding of around £1.8million towards the improvement and maintenance of schools in the borough within the 2014/15 financial year.

Colin Foster, Chief Education Officer at Bedford Borough Council, said: “The Borough's commitment to education is evident in our substantial investment in the maintenance of our schools. We will work to ensure pupils have the best possible environment in which to learn. Our goal is firmly fixed on enabling young people to experience a high standard of education in order to excel.”

So far, this programme has completed:

·         The installation of fire doors - £109k at Biddenham Upper and £62k at Kings Oak Primary

·         Mechanical and Electrical work/maintenance - £180k at Biddenham Upper, £125k at Springfield Lower and £53k at Kings Oak Primary

·         Roofs - £55k at Brickhill Lower, £90k at Broadmead Lower and £168k at Cauldwell Primary (nearly completed), £116k at Kings Oak Primary and £76k at Thurleigh Lower

·         Windows - £29k at Balliol Lower, £21k at Bromham Lower and £42k at Kings Oak Primary

This programme is part of the Borough Council’s overarching £48million School Capital Investment plan in which temporary classrooms are being scrapped and replaced with permanent builds.

Last year, schools in Bedford Borough were praised after the Local Authority area was recognised by Ofsted as offering one of the best opportunities in the country for children to attend a good or outstanding primary school.
