New Primary School
New Primary Education in Riseley
Pupils in Riseley are set to benefit from the
creation of a Church of England Primary School on the
current Margaret Beaufort School site from 2017.
The announcement comes about following
extensive negotiations between The Diocese of St Albans, Sharnbrook
Academy Federation (SAF) and Bedford Borough Council all of who
were keen to develop the best education provision possible for
pupils in Riseley.
The decision follows recognition that
projected pupil numbers meant there was a need for just one Primary
School going forward.
The relocated Riseley Church of England
Voluntary Aided Primary School will continue to be part of the St
Albans Diocesan family of schools and managed by its existing
The first Reception pupils will enter the new
school in September 2017. They will move into a brand new,
state of the art Reception and Key Stage 1 building. It is intended
that eventually Riseley CE VA Primary School will be located in a
brand new school building on the current Margaret Beaufort
site, pending approval from the Department of Education.
Children who are attending year 5 at Margaret
Beaufort Middle School in September 2016 will continue into Year 6
of the new Primary School, on the same site, in September
2017. SAF are exploring additional options and will be
in contact with parents after Easter.
In September 2018 pupils will be able to apply
for places in Year 7 at the high achieving Sharnbrook Upper School.
Cllr Henry Vann said “There is a real shared
vision for schools in the north of Bedford Borough. I would like to
thank all parties for working together so pragmatically to secure
the best deal for pupils in Riseley. I look forward to the
transformation to two-tier education in Bedford Borough.”
The Bishop of Bedford said “The Diocese of St
Albans Board of Education warmly welcomes the relocation of Riseley
Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School onto the Margaret
Beaufort site and will continue to work in partnership with others
to ensure an education of the highest possible standard will be
provided for local children”
Hugh Carr-Archer, Chair of Governors at
Sharnbrook Academy Federation said "The preference of SAF has
always been for some form of merger between the two schools in
Riseley to create a primary school on the Margaret Beaufort site
but this has not proved possible. We will support and assist in
every way with the opening of this primary school in Riseley and
are pleased to be able to contribute in this significant way to the
plans for a brand new school building for the village."
