World Environment Day 2012

To celebrate World Environment Day, Bedford Borough Council’s Sustainability Team will have a stand in the Howard Centre on 6th June from 10am – 3pm.

The stand will have useful information from the Sustainability Team on how people can reduce their energy and water consumption to help them save money on their bills and cut their carbon emissions. The Recycling Team will also be on hand to offer residents advice on recycling and composting.

World Environment Day aims to be the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action.

This year’s theme is Green Economy which is seeking to encourage greener business methods. If businesses can adopt more environmentally friendly methods this would lead to improvements in the quality of people’s lives while also significantly reducing environmental damage and protecting our scarce resources.

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “Bedford Borough Council is committed to reducing its carbon emissions and is targeting a 40% reduction by 2015. We also want to work with local residents and help them to reduce their own impact on the environment as well as reducing their energy costs.

“We will be offering a range of tips and advice as we work together towards creating a cleaner and greener borough.”
