WORLD RECORD BROKEN IN BEDFORD
The Bedford International Athletics Stadium,
in Bedford, hosted the BUCS Outdoor Athletics Championships, on
Saturday 4th May, and witnessed Cardiff Met superstar,
Aled Davies, break his own World Record for the F42 Shot, after a
throw of 14.68m.
Davies surpassed his previous World Record
throw (set in 2012) by 12cm in his fourth round attempt in the
men’s Shot put competition.
Cllr Doug McMurdo, Portfolio Holder for
Leisure and Culture, at Bedford Borough Council, said: “We are very
proud that our sports setting was equipped to offer Aled what he
needed in order to achieve this result. It confirms Bedford's
reputation as one of the top Athletics facilities in the country.
Our key priority is to maintain and continue to secure great events
like this and play host to such world-class talent.”
BSc Sports Management student Davies, 21, is a
Paralympic Champion with a Gold medal in F42 Discus, and a Bronze
medal in the F42-44 Shot Put, from London 2012.
After breaking the World Record, Aled Davies
MBE, said: “I’ve pulled this distance out at the start of season. I
am over the moon, and I am excited to see how much further I can go
as the season kicks on.”
