NEW COUNCIL TAX BILLS FOR BOROUGH RESIDENTS
Bedford Borough residents will receive
new Council Tax bills from Thursday 21 May 2015.
New bills are being issued following the
Council Tax referendum held on 7 May 2015 in which voters rejected
the Bedfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner’s proposed 15.8%
increase in the Police’s element of Council Tax.
The new Council Tax bills are necessary
because the Council was obliged by law to issue bills in March that
included the Police and Crime Commissioner’s proposed 15.8%
increase. Following the outcome of the referendum, when
voters opted to reject the increase, the new bills will show the
Council Tax charge for the year based on the alternative lower
increase of 2% on the Police and Crime Commissioner's element of
Councillor Michael Headley explained: “Most
residents still have at least 8 monthly instalments to pay and they
will receive a bill which shows reduced instalments for the
remainder of the year.
Anyone that has already paid their bill for
the year in full will receive a bill showing a credit and a refund
will be issued automatically to these people over the next few
