Fostering Fortnight 16-19 May

Every 20 minutes across the UK a child comes into care, in need of a foster family this is the theme being delivered by this year’s Foster Care Fortnight campaign called a ‘Time to Foster, Time to Care’.

This means that nationally a further 1008 children will be taken into care during the campaign, which runs from 16th May – 29th May.  Staff and local businesses above are supporting Bedford Borough Council’s campaign to recruit more fostering households within the borough. You can tune in to our Foster Carer interview on In2Beats106.5fm on 19th May between 12 and 1pm.

Cllr Shan Hunt, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Social Care, said: “Foster care provides children with a safe, secure and nurturing family environment, and allows them to keep in contact with their own families if they wish. We would like to remind people that anyone wanting to foster will be supported every step of the way by Bedford Borough Council.”

Cllr Hunt continued: “We are looking for foster carers from a variety of different backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures and religions to meet the needs of our children.  Whether people can foster short term or for more long-term periods, we would be delighted to hear from them. Fantastic foster carers are making such a difference to children’s lives.”

Throughout the fortnight, there is a programme of events taking place; a creative competition for all children living within fostering families, a picnic in the park for foster carers and the children they care for, as well as a huge social media campaign.

A stall will also be at the High Street Showcase on Saturday 4 June, where people can pop by and have a chat about fostering with representatives from the Council’s fostering team.  The fostering team will also be at this year’s Kite Festival and the Bedford River Festival.

If you know someone who could join Bedford Borough's Fantastic Foster Carers and give a child a home, please ask them to fill in the information pack request (link to website page http://www.bedford.gov.uk/health_and_social_care/adoption_and_fostering.aspx), call 01234 718718 or email adoptionandfostering@bedford.gov.uk.
