Bedfordshire Dancesport Club

Thursday 4th November 2010

The Bedfordshire DanceSport Club, in Bedford, is the first dance organisation in England to receive Sport England accreditation. To celebrate their new found status, club members will be twirling in to the Mayor’s Parlour at 7pm, on Friday 5th November.

The whole Bedfordshire DanceSport Club squad, which is made up of children aged between 5–13 years-old, are invited to the Mayor’s Parlour for a fantastic and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Once the dance group finish being congratulated by the Mayor, they will head over to the Harpur Suite, at 7.45pm, to take part in a dance show, highlighting a range of Ballroom and Latin displays.

The Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “This Club has gained high level recognition from Sport England. Its commitment to dance and community involvement is very impressive and sets an excellent example. Gaining the Sport England Club Mark accreditation is no mean feat, well done to all those who made it happen.”

The Bedfordshire DanceSport Club is a voluntary organisation consisting of parents and teachers of the DanceSport Academy. Since its set up in 2008, it has promoted community participation in health and recreation for the benefit of the inhabitants of Bedford and the surrounding area. The Club has worked on a number of projects to secure the advancement of the physical education, provide fun and active opportunities to children and young people, and the relief of those in need, by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantages.

The Harpur suite event has sold out, with over 100 people expected to attend the celebrations.
