Taking Action Together - At Elstow Lower School

Wednesday 17th November 2010

As part of Anti-Bullying week, the children at Elstow Lower School have been looking at friendships, getting on and falling-out, and support systems available to them.  The Mayor, Dave Hodgson, attended the school today (17th November) to observe the pupils work which surrounded an anti-bullying theme, and presented prizes to individuals whose entries won the school’s poster competition.

The whole school took part in a range of activities including making handprints highlighting their own support systems, designing posters and creating a graffiti wall displaying words that the children associate with bullying.

Earlier in the week (on Monday 15th November), the Mayor attend Robert Bruce Middle School’s assembly, to launch Anti-Bullying Week across the borough.

The Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “No-one should be exposed to bullying in our schools. Such anti-social behaviour can have a detrimental effect on people’s self-esteem for the rest of their lives. This week of awareness helps to educate students on the importance of treating people how they would wish to be treated themselves. I will support Anti-Bullying Week in any way I can to ensure this message is heard”.

Anti-Bullying Week runs from 15th – 19th November and aims to improve awareness on bullying and highlight ways in which to both prevent it, and to offer support to those who may be going through such an experience.
