Have you been to St Pauls Square in Bedford town centre
recently? Have you noticed the scaffolding and work taking place on
the former Saracens Head pub, next to the Corn Exchange?
Work is now well underway to convert the former pub into a new
front of house facility for Bedford Corn Exchange, Bedford Borough
Council’s premier entertainment venue.
The building will significantly improve the experience for all
visitors to the Corn Exchange as it includes an exciting new
licensed cafe to complement the Corn Exchange’s suite of
The improvements also include additional space for private
functions and a spacious lobby for visitors. In order to create the
new front of house, the interior of the building will be changed so
that audiences will be able to go straight through to the Corn
Exchange to enjoy the shows on offer.
The works have received independent praise as part of the
Considerate Constructors Scheme and will also preserve the
architectural heritage of the front of the building.
The new venue will open next Spring.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “This new front of
house facility will be a huge improvement for the Corn Exchange
suite in Bedford town centre and will offer an improved experience
for all visitors.
“The Corn Exchange complex hosts hundreds of events every year
and we are investing in this new addition to ensure the Corn
Exchange can attract performing arts of the highest quality to an
improved venue in the heart of Bedford town centre.
