Coming soon!

Have you been to St Pauls Square in Bedford town centre recently? Have you noticed the scaffolding and work taking place on the former Saracens Head pub, next to the Corn Exchange?

Work is now well underway to convert the former pub into a new front of house facility for Bedford Corn Exchange, Bedford Borough Council’s premier entertainment venue.

The building will significantly improve the experience for all visitors to the Corn Exchange as it includes an exciting new licensed cafe to complement the Corn Exchange’s suite of entertainment venues.

The improvements also include additional space for private functions and a spacious lobby for visitors. In order to create the new front of house, the interior of the building will be changed so that audiences will be able to go straight through to the Corn Exchange to enjoy the shows on offer.

The works have received independent praise as part of the Considerate Constructors Scheme and will also preserve the architectural heritage of the front of the building.

The new venue will open next Spring.

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “This new front of house facility will be a huge improvement for the Corn Exchange suite in Bedford town centre and will offer an improved experience for all visitors.

“The Corn Exchange complex hosts hundreds of events every year and we are investing in this new addition to ensure the Corn Exchange can attract performing arts of the highest quality to an improved venue in the heart of Bedford town centre.

Councillor Doug McMurdo, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, added: “Bringing this high profile building back into use with a brand new café bar will attract greater footfall and make this part of the town centre even more attractive to residents and visitors alike.”
