Green Borough Fair

The 3rd ‘Green Borough Fair’ takes place this weekend in Bedford town centre.

The fair takes place at the Harpur Suite and visitors will find a choice of ‘greener’ Christmas gifts and something a little different for those ‘difficult to buy for’ people.

They can then take a break from the pressure of shopping and enjoy a cup of tea and a cake served by Team Mo Ford, the council’s very own ‘Movember men’ (in aid of Movember raising funds for prostate cancer) while the children enjoy the free craft activities and perhaps have a go on the pedal powered Scalextric. After that, they can pick up helpful hints on ways to reduce the hole in their pockets with tips on how to save money by adopting a more sustainable lifestyle.

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “The Green Borough Fair is always a very popular and well attended event and I am sure this fair, in the run up to Christmas, will be no different.

“As a council we are committed to reducing our impact on the environment. However, we also want to work with local residents and demonstrate how we can all reduce our impact on the environment. The Green Borough Fair is a great opportunity to learn a bit more and pick up some useful hints and tips, all while enjoying the fair.”

In the season of New Year’s Resolutions, visitors will also be able to find out how to get more active or involved in the community. A variety of groups will be on hand to offer advice and ideas for reducing waste and saving energy, getting involved with local growing projects, leisure cycling on Bedford’s Green Wheel and a wide range of volunteering opportunities to keep fit, active and have fun while caring for the environment.

This year, visitors can also donate food to the Bedford Foodbank and pet supplies to the Pet food collection to help those people and pets in need over the festive period.

All food donated will be delivered to Bedford Foodbank and animal charities in the local area.

So come along to the Green Borough Fair and find out about:

- the locally sourced products and gifts on sale
- willow weaving demos and gifts
- how to start growing your own vegetables
- how to sign up to do environmental volunteering
- how much of your waste you can reduce, reuse and recycle

The Green Borough Fair takes place between 10am-3pm on Saturday 24th November at the Harpur Suite in Bedford Town Centre. Entry is free.
