Everything you need to stay ahead of the weather in Bedford Borough

As the winter weather draws in and the nights get longer, Bedford Borough Council’s winter weather services are now up and running.

@grittertweets updates followers on road conditions in the borough and informs followers when crews will be out gritting the roads. In addition, the dedicated Winter Weather webpage pulls together information in one simple and convenient location which shows the status of public and adult transport and household bin collections as well as using GPS trackers to show gritting runs as they happen.

The Council’s specially adapted quad bike will again be on call to grit busy pedestrian areas, such as the town centre and other shopping parades as well as other narrow and hard to reach routes the gritting lorries cannot reach.

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “We know that harsh winter weather can have a big impact on our day-to-day lives. That is why we have been working hard during the summer to source plenty of grit and make sure we have our winter services in place to minimise the impact on local people when the snow and ice arrives.

“Grittertweets and the dedicated winter weather webpage have become increasingly popular in the last couple of years as they provide real time updates on road conditions, gritting runs and provide the latest information on any changes to household bin collections or public, school and adult transport.

“Of course, we hope the winter will be mild and problem free but local residents can rest assured, Bedford Borough is well prepared and we will once again be as open and responsive as we can in communicating during any periods of harsh weather.”
