SUNFLOWER HOUSE - OFSTED CONFIRM ‘CHILDREN REALLY ENJOY GOING TO STAY IN THE HOME’

This month, Ofsted carried out an inspection on Sunflower House and judged its overall effectiveness to be Good.

The home, which is run by Bedford Borough Council, provides care and accommodation for up to five children with physical disabilities, learning disabilities and sensory impairment.

Outcomes for Children and Young People and Quality of Care were both judged to be Outstanding.

Ofsted reported that ‘children make excellent progress in all aspects of their lives as a result of them coming to stay in the home’.

Cllr Sue Oliver, Executive Member for Children’s Social Care at Bedford Borough, said: “Throughout the report it is confirmed that staff at Sunflower House are totally child-centred. The bond between the staff and the children is of paramount importance. It is thanks to the dedicated team for developing such great relationships which serve to maximise the young peoples’ self-esteem and independence.”

Ofsted highlighted the children ‘are exceptionally well-supported by staff and the manager who know and understand them and their needs well.’
