Bedford Central Library will be playing host
to the Polari Literary Salon on Wednesday 2nd December
and to celebrate, Paul Burston (author, journalist) and VG Lee
(author, comedian) will be offering a FREE 2 hour workshop for
writers wishing to share their work with an audience.
Between 2pm and 4pm, participants will take
part in a creative writing exercise but are also asked to bring
along a piece of their own work – be it fiction, non-fiction,
poetry etc. that they would like to read in public.
In a safe and supportive environment the
workshop will concentrate on the performing side of an author’s
life: editing and adapting work to read aloud, timing, voice
control and connecting with the audience. At the end of the
workshop one writer will be offered the chance to read at the
Polari event later the same evening.
Author and journalist, Paul, created London’s
award-winning Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT)
literary salon ‘Polari’ and The Polari First Book Prize and we are
delighted to welcome them back to Bedford as part of a Polari
National Tour funded by Arts Council England.
The event will start at 7pm and is also free
Cllr Sarah Jayne Holland, Portfolio Holder for
Leisure and Culture at Bedford Borough Council, said: “This
workshop will be a fantastic opportunity for local budding writers,
as both Paul and VG have a wealth of experience and creativity. I
am delighted that the Polari tour has chosen to return to Bedford
If you would like to attend one or both of
these events, you can get tickets in advance from Bedford Central
