The Mayor Lends a Hand for Meals on Wheels

Thursday 14th October 2010

THE MAYOR LENDS A HAND FOR MEALS ON WHEELS WEEK

To show his support for ‘Meals on Wheels Week’, the Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, took part in delivering meals to service users within the borough. The national campaign runs from the 11th – 17th October and takes place to highlight the essential service within the community.

Apetito offer a wide range of frozen meals and desserts to homes the borough on behalf of Bedford Borough Council. The Mayor joined Apetito officers on their rounds, this week, visiting homes in the Castle and Goldington Ward area.

The service helps individuals to stay in their homes for longer and help the fight against malnutrition.

The Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “This crucial service also provides an element of psychological comfort to people, as it’s literally a ‘service with a smile’. Many told me that they thought the food was fantastic. At just over £3, which is practically the price of a sandwich in some shops, the food is not only delivered, but delivered hot! A particular favourite on the menu seemed to be sausage casserole and Bakewell Tart. Taking part on these rounds gave me an opportunity to meet the residents who depend on Meals on Wheels, and talk to them directly about how the service benefits their lives.”
