Help us plant 10,000 bulbs!

An ambitious campaign to plant 10,000 daffodil bulbs across Bedford Borough is now underway.

Bedford’s Big Bulb Plant Month is organised by Bedford Borough Council’s Pride in Bedford team and will see 16 events during October and early November to plant daffodils in rural and urban parts of Bedford Borough. The first 500 daffodil bulbs were planted by 15 volunteers in Cople on the 1st October.

All events are completely free and all equipment is provided. Volunteers are simply asked to wear suitable clothing and footwear. You don’t even have to register, just come along and get stuck in!

Events take place on Saturday mornings, between 10am and noon. There will also be a special week of planting days during October half term – not a bad way to keep the kids occupied for a couple of hours!

Councillor Sarah Jayne Holland, Portfolio Holder for Community and Regulatory Services, said: “Planting 10,000 daffodils may sound ambitious but I am sure the enthusiasm of those who get involved will make it happen.

“These bulb planting events are happening across the borough in both urban and rural areas giving many hundreds of people the chance to come together and help us reach our ambitious target.”
