Final call to register to vote
With the election for the new Police and Crime Commissioner for
Bedfordshire taking place on 15th November, Bedford Borough Council
is concerned that no one should miss out on the opportunity to have
The Council has been encouraging residents to make sure they are
registered ahead of this Wednesday 31st October, when registration
for this election closes.
Each year, the Council’s Registration & Records Unit
send Voter Registration Forms to every household within the borough
asking residents to register all eligible voters and those aged 16
and 17. The Electoral Register is updated each year through
the annual canvass process, and a new Register is normally
published on the 1 December. However, because of the new
elections taking place for Police and Crime Commissioners this
November, the Government moved the date of Annual Canvass and the
new Register was published this year on 16 October 2012.

Keith Simmons, Head of Registration and Records, said: “You have
to be registered to vote to take part in this November’s Police and
Crime Commissioner Election.
“The deadline for registration for the election is the 31st
October so you need to get in touch now if you’re not registered.
The vast majority of residents responded to the annual canvass
taking place earlier but for anyone who hasn’t registered forms are
available on the internet at www.bedford.gov.uk/democracy
