International cycling event coming to Bedford Borough
The UK’s first ever Women’s Tour will visit Bedford Borough next
The Women’s Tour is the country’s first ever international stage
race for women and will bring the world’s best riders to Bedford
Borough on Thursday 8th May 2014.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “It is excellent
news that world class cycling is coming to Bedford Borough next
“The sight of elite cyclists racing through the streets of
Bedford Borough will provide a tremendous spectacle for people of
all ages to enjoy. Details of the route through the borough
are still being finalised but we are working to make sure that it
gives people every opportunity to experience and enjoy The Tour at
“I look forward to welcoming the riders and their teams next
May, and to joining the crowds in cheering them on as they race
along local roads.”
Bedford is considered by many involved with cycling as the home
of women’s racing in Britain, having hosted the Bedford 3 Day stage
race for many years, and the arrival of the Women’s Tour is set to
enhance this reputation even further.
The Women’s Tour starts on Wednesday 7th May in Oundle,
Northamptonshire. Day two starts in Hinckley in Leicestershire and
travels south, ending the day in Bedford Borough.
The exact route and timings for the stage through Bedford
Borough will be announced in due course and further details of the
race and the locations for the remaining stages will be announced
over the coming months.
