Heat Your Home For Less

Keeping Warm for Less This Autumn

Bedford Borough Council is supporting the fifth annual Big Energy Saving Week, which takes place this year from the 26th October to 1st November 2015. A collaboration between Citizens Advice, Energy Saving Trust and other voluntary and charitable organisations, the national campaign aims to bring together consumers with all the advice and assistance that is out there in relation to their fuel bills.

Bedford Borough Council advises residents to check with their current energy suppliers to see if they are on the best tariff and payment method and also if suppliers can offer any discounts to reduce bills. For example, if you choose to pay by Direct Debit and manage your account online you may be able to get a better deal, or you may be eligible for the Warm Home Discount.

In addition, Citizens Advice estimates that changing energy providers could save customers hundreds of pounds on annual energy bills if they have never switched.

To find out if you could get a better deal, all you need is your postcode as well as details of your supplier, current tariff and annual energy consumption; all of which should be on your latest bill. Bedford Borough Council’s ‘Safe, Healthy and Well’ leaflet has also been recently been updated and offers important advice on how to reduce energy bills and keep warm during the winter; staying safe, healthy and well. The leaflet directs readers to a range of services and help available; including safety improvements, pension and benefits advice, plus details about keeping healthy during the colder months. To view a copy of the ‘Safe, Healthy and Well’ leaflet visit www.bedford.gov.uk/safehealthywell.
