Mayor Supports Pakistan Floods Appeal

The Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, took a decision on 23rd August to donate the sum of £2,000 to the Pakistan Floods Appeal, sourced from the Mayor’s Discretionary Fund. The donation has now been sent to the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC).

The Mayor of Bedford Borough Council, Dave Hodgson, said: “This £2,000 will go to towards helping to fund the life-saving work in Pakistan. The aftermath of the floods means there is a serious risk to survivors from potentially deadly diseases. Just because it is not on the front pages of the newspapers any more does not mean that the disaster is over for those affected. The hardship faced by the flood victims is very much in our thoughts.”

To date, the DEC, member agencies and their partners, have helped nearly three million people affected by the Pakistan Floods.

Separately, staff at Bedford Borough Council had raised £755.68 to go to the appeal, after a collection took place throughout Friday 20th August.

The Disasters Emergency Appeal Committee has launched a national appeal given the level of devastation suffered and the number of people affected by the flooding.
