Coming to a screen near you! The Cycle Powered Cinema!
For the first time in Bedford Borough, a ‘Cycle Powered Cinema’
will be open to all this Saturday!
It is taking place to mark the end of European Mobility Week
2012 and coincides with “In Town Without My Car Day”, organised by
School of Us and supported by Bedford Borough Council, We Are
Bedford, The Bedford Clanger, Luscious Juice Bar, and The Lane.
European Mobility Week started on the 16th September and aims to
encourage more people to cycle, walk or use public transport. The
theme this year is “Moving in the Right Direction”.
The Cycle Powered Cinema is free for all to attend. The
projector will be powered by members of the public cycling on
stationary bicycles and will take place outdoors.
Kayte Judge, founder of School Of Us, explains: “This is an
opportunity to create our own cinema under the stars and to turn
what is usually a passive experience into something more active
and, ultimately, more fun.”
The film, ‘Belleville Rendez-vous” (Cert 12) will be shown at a
secret location in central Bedford. If you wish to attend then
please meet at the Castle Bailey Gardens (outside The Lane) at 8pm
where you will be directed to the location of the film showing.
This will be an open-air event so dress accordingly and bring a
blanket to sit on and a torch. In the case of rain there will be an
indoor showing (although spaces will be limited).
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, added: “The Cycle
Powered Cinema is a first for Bedford, and I’m delighted that the
Council is supporting this event from School of Us as part of
European Mobility Week.
“It will help mark an innovative end to a varied range of
activities taking place throughout mobility week. I want to
congratulate those who have worked to put on such an intriguing and
unique event for the community to enjoy, right in the centre of
