LITTER CRACKDOWN; OFFENCE LANDS WOMAN WITH £400
A case of littering was heard by Bedford
Magistrates on Wednesday 4th September 2013.
Miss Britta Haynes of Salisbury, Wiltshire,
failed to appear before Magistrates in connection to a littering
offence which occurred on Harpur Street, Bedford on Wednesday
27th February 2013. The Magistrates fined Miss Haynes
£200 and ordered her to pay £176 costs, along with a victim
surcharge of £20.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said:
“This is an excellent result and demonstrates that the Council is
serious about tackling and fining people who drop litter.
Littering is anti-social behaviour and blights
the local environment for everyone. We are now prosecuting more
offenders than ever before, and we will maintain a zero-tolerance
approach towards the minority of people who believe it is
acceptable to drop litter in the borough.”
