Shortstown Primary

COMING SOON TO A BOROUGH NEAR YOU!...SHORTSTOWN PRIMARY

Shortstown Primary is almost ready for the September 2013 pupil intake. The ‘two form’ entry school will replace the current one form entry Shortstown Lower School, and will accommodate extra pupils coming from an increase in surrounding housing developments.

The building has been designed and built by Willmott Dixon. The contractors are currently working to complete the internal fittings and decorations, so that the school can decant from their current building throughout the month of August, and be ready to open in September.

During the building phase, Willmott Dixon has been working closely with the Head teacher, Denise Cottam. Also, pupils from the current school, staff members and members of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) have visited the site to view the building progress - from the first dig, up to the end of the summer term.

Head Teacher, Denise Cottam, said: “This has been a very hands-on project, we have watched with excitement as the school takes shape. I am very much looking forward to starting the new term. The layout of the new school offers an imaginative and bold backdrop for young people to learn within.”

Cllr Henry Vann, Portfolio Holder for Education at Bedford Borough Council, said: “The new building by Willmott Dixon looks fantastic. We have high hopes that this excellent school will continue to thrive on its new site and build on the performance last academic year which saw 94% of schools in Bedford Borough, inspected by Ofsted, judged as good or outstanding.”

Last year, schools in Bedford Borough were praised after the Local Authority area was recognised by Ofsted as offering one of the best opportunities in the country for children to attend a good or outstanding primary school. Schools in Bedford Borough were ranked as 11th out of 150 local authorities across the country and number one in the Eastern region, with 87% of children attending a good or outstanding lower or primary school.
