Petitions

On 6 September 2010, the Council introduced a new e-petitions facility which enables members of the public to sign or submit petitions electronically, and if sufficient signatures are received, may go forward and be considered by the full Council.

The Petitions Register and link to Questions Template have been produced to provide information to residents about the petitions that have been formally presented to the Council and their outcomes and the option to provide notice of questions which residents may wish to put at Council meetings. Further information about the Council's procedures for dealing with petitions and putting questions is available online.

Members of the public can also:

There may be circumstances where it would be more appropriate to refer your question direct to the relevant Department, such as a question concerning a current planning application.  If you need further assistance in this regard, please contact Andrew Robertson on 01234 228819 or by email.

30

K Rignall

18.8.15

Kempston West: Cllr W Hunt

Exec Director for Environment & Sustainable Communities

No debate as less than 31 signatures. Directorate responded:

1.     We will look to make the existing single yellow lines at the junction of Wyatt Road and High Street in to a double yellow lines restricting waiting at all times. This will be carried out early in the New Year.

2.     We will carry out a speed survey in Wyatt Road to determine the speed of traffic. From this data, we can then decide on the most appropriate action. The speed survey will be carried out at the end of October / beginning of November 2015.

3.     We will send petitioner a copy of the speed survey and then discuss the most appropriate action.

23.11.15 - the speed survey results show that there is compliance with the speed limit and no further action is required.

To request that the zebra crossing in High Street Kempston should be moved and changed to a pelican crossing.

26

L Fensome

29.7.15

Kempston West: Cllr W Hunt

Exec Director for Environment & Sustainable Communities

No debate as less than 31 signatures.  Directorate responded:

We are unable to move the existing crossing on the roundabout outside Lidls as this is an important crossing point for accessing the store and the surrounding areas - whilst we were on site at least 20 people used the crossing.

If we moved the crossing, people would still cross the road at this point as this is on the desire line. Without a crossing at this point, we would be concerned that the area would be unsafe and accidents may occur.

We have asked for another crossing to be considered further along the High Street. The request will be assessed and then added to our priority list for future funding.

Further response from Directorate 15 April 2016:

The site was assessed as being low priority. It is being added to the list of similar requests from across the Borough.  There are currently no funds available for the provision of zebra crossings and therefore no schemes on the list are being progressed in this financial year. Given the relatively low priority of this request, it is unlikely that the scheme will gain funding in the foreseeable future.
