Marriage and Civil Partnerships

Before your ceremony, you will need to:

Choose a venue

Book a Registrar

If you need to book a Registrar to come and perform your ceremony you must contact the Superintendent Registrar for that district. We take bookings up to a year to the day before the ceremony (for example, for Saturday 11th April 2020 the earliest you can call to book your Registrar is Thursday 11th April 2019).

Give Notice

You will need to give notice of your intent to marry, or of your intent to form a civil partnership in the district in which you live. You will both need to give notice, and if you each live in a different district then you will have to give your notices to your respective Registration Services.

Return your Ceremony Pack

After you have given notice the registrar will send you an information pack containing important information. It will include a checklist which you must complete and return to the Registrar at least a month before your ceremony. This checklist tells the Registrar what you want to happen at your wedding, including what vows you would like to say, the music you would like to use, and any readings you want to include.
