Customising your ceremony

For couples marrying, there are certain words prescribed by law (the contracting and declaratory words) which you must say.  For couples wanting a civil partnership registration there is no requirement for you to make contracting or declaratory words but we can there is a choice of words that you may wish to say.

Once you have booked your venue, arranged for the Registrar to attend and given your Notice the Registrar will send you a Ceremony Pack. This includes our terms and conditions (if you have not already completed this) and a checklist which you must complete and return to us as soon as possible along with copies of any readings or additional vows or ring words that you wish to say to each other. This checklist tells us what you want to happen during your ceremony and needs to be checked and agreed by the Registrar at least a month before it is due to take place.

The Ceremony Pack normally contains;

  • Confirmation of your date, time and venue of your booking
  • Information about what will happen at the ceremony and contact details for any queries
  • Checklist of requirements - complete and return to us
  • Choice of declaration and contracting words
  • Choice of ring words - if you are exchanging rings
  • A guide on photography
  • A selection of pre-approved readings, (you can choose or write your own)

During a Civil Ceremony there must be no religious references, therefore all ceremony content e.g. music choices and readings must be agreed at least a month prior to the date set.
