Income Deprivation Affecting Older People Index (IDAOPI) 2015
As part of the Income Domain of the Indices of Deprivation 2015,
a supplementary index has also been published which measures
the proportion of older people who are income deprived*.
Older People Income Deprivation in Bedford Borough
Across the Borough, 13.5% of older people are considered to
be income deprived and the Borough is ranked 173 of 326
English local authorities, where 1 is the most deprived.
However, levels of older people deprivation vary
greatly by area, ranging from a high of 50% in LSOA 471 in Castle
ward to a low of 3% in LSOA 532 in Putnoe ward**.
The Borough has 6 LSOAs among the 0-10% most deprived areas
in England on the IDAOPI measure, 5 LSOAs among the 10-20%
most deprived, and 13 among the 20-30% most deprived.
All 24 of these LSOAs are located in the urban area, with the
most severe deprivation in parts of Castle, Cauldwell, Harpur,
Kingsbrook and Queens Park wards, and are shown on this
Changes between 2010 and 2015
Compared to the last IDAOPI measure published in 2010, the
number of LSOAs in the Borough which fall within the 0-30% most
deprived areas nationally has risen from 23 to 24.
However, the number within the 0-10% most severely deprived
areas declined from 9 in 2010 to 6 in 2015, and the overall
