Population Projections

The most recent population projections for the Borough are the ONS 2014-based Subnational Population Projections for 2014-2039

ONS estimates that the Borough’s population will increase to approximately 182,400 in 2023, an increase of 8% over 2016.

However, the older population is projected to increase at a much higher rate. The 65+ population is projected to rise by 16% from 2016 - 2023, and the 85+ population by 26%.

Longer term, the population of the Borough is projected to reach 209,600 in 2039. This would represent a 24% increase between 2016 and 2039.

Again, however, older age groups are projected to rise by much greater levels, with those aged 65+ increasing by 69%, and those aged 85+ by 142% (from 4,200 in 2016 to 10,200 in 2039).
