Make Your Mark

'Make Your Mark' is UK-wide ballot which gives young people aged 11-18 the chance to decide what Members of Youth Parliament should debate and vote on during their sitting in the House of Commons this November.

Young people chose from a shortlist of topics on the ballot paper, the top 5 are then debated in the House of Commons by Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs) from across the UK, on 14th November. Following the debate, MYPs vote for two issues to become our national campaigns for year ahead. The campaigns voted on last year were: Votes at 16 and a Curriculum for Life.

This year Bedford Borough Council had a 18.39% turn out and we got 3024 votes.

National turn out was 14.88% with a total vote count of 876,488.  This is an amazing result, so well done to all those who voted!

The top 5 that will debated in the Houses of Commons on 14 November are:-

  • Everyone should be paid at least the Living Wage of £7.65 per hour (£8.80 in London)
  • Bring back exam resits in Maths and English
  • Work experience
  • Votes at 16
  • Mental Health services.
