Resources and Contacts

The Engagement and Development team offer Young Carers Awareness Training throughout the year for children, young people and adults workers or volunteers to increase knowledge and understanding of the lives of young carers. The training makes use of the Undercover Heroes DVD and resource pack as well as looking at legislation, local support and opportunities for young carers.  To find out more information about the training please contact trainhelp@bedford.gov.uk   in Learning and Development or call (01234) 228471

Guide for schools from Carers Trust UK

Click here for the latest report into the experiences of young carers by the Children’s Society. “Hidden from view” published on May 16 2013 looks at data from the 2011 census in addition to data from the Longitudinal Survey of Young People in England.  

Bedford Borough Joint Strategic Needs Assessment. - Young Carer's.  Local views of young carers, national strategies and identities the key inequalities and unmet needs locally. This chapter will be refreshed in January 2015.

The Carers in Beds Prepared to Care? Exploring the impact of caring on people’s lives, shares the personal accounts of carers as they discuss the realities of caring for a family member or friend.

The Engagement and Development team in Children’s Services have supported young carers to create three resources to assist other young carers and professionals in understanding and raising awareness of the needs of young carers.

  • Time Out Cards 

The Undercover Heroes film was shown to staff in relevant settings for children and young people. It is also being shown to children and young people (in group work, PSHE lessons etc) with the accompanying resource pack, which is full of information, guidance and activities aimed at staff and young people
