Short Breaks Services Update: 03

Family Information Service

The Bedford Borough Family Information Service is an information service for parents and carers of children and young people aged between 0 – 19 years.  It provides information and advice on childcare, early years education, activities, financial support for parents, support groups and clubs/activities for children with disabilities and has an online Family Services Directory at www.fis.bedford.gov.uk.

Disability and Additional Needs Register

The Register is a record of children and young people in Bedford Borough with a disability or additional need.  Registering your child is voluntary but by doing so you will help to ensure that the right services are being provided and developed within the Borough.

You will be sent an ‘Information Directory’, with details of local services and organisations which also highlights benefits that you might be entitled to.

A membership card will be issued to each child on the Register.  Parents have told the service that the card has helped get assistance and understanding for their child in many different situations.  It can also be useful for leisure venues and attractions which may give priority access or other benefits.

For more information, please contact the Bedford Borough Council Family Information Service on 0800 023 2057 or email fis@bedford.gov.uk.
