Short Breaks Services Update: 10

UPDATE: Short Breaks Services Event: Family Fun Day

Unfortunately, due to the inclement weather conditions we saw on Saturday 23rd March we felt it necessary to postpone the planned Short Breaks Services Family Fun Day.

This was not an exclusive decision made by Bedford Borough Council, but rather was made following discussions with the Contact a Family associate for Bedford Borough, the manager supporting the Parent Carer Forum and the venue managers.

Many of the logistics at the event were due to be facilitated by students with additional needs who attend the local college, and our Young Commissioners group comprising of young people both with and without additional needs.

Due to the weather conditions, the support staff, and subsequently these groups would have been unable to attend.  We needed to make a decision early enough on the Friday to allow sufficient time for this to be communicated to the respective groups, and to avoid unnecessary disruption.

We appreciate that many planning to attend the event live locally, however we anticipated that the forecast weather conditions would have deterred some from attending, and that it was likely that the overall attendance would have been less than we had hoped for.

Additionally we had providers travelling to the event from various locations including London, Birmingham, and Norwich who would have been unlikely to attend due to difficult travelling conditions.   We want this event to be a success, and for as many families as possible to be able to attend, by rearranging it we will be better able to achieve this.

POSTPONED: Short Breaks Services Event: Family Fun Day

Unfortunately, due to the current forecast weather for Saturday 23rd March, we are making the decision to postpone the planned Short Breaks Services Family Fun Day.

The current weather forecast is heavy rain tonight, with sleet progressing to heavy snow tomorrow morning, and continuing for the duration of the day.

This is not a decision which has been taken lightly.  We recognise that a lot of planning has taken place, and that many are looking forward to attending.

We need to be considerate that both families and providers would be travelling from some distance and that we are not able to guarantee that we would get the attendance we have hoped for.

We will be hoping to rearrange the event for the end of April, and will circulate information relating to this as soon as we are able to.
