Bedford Borough SACRE Agreed Syllabus

Every maintained school in England must provide a basic curriculum (RE, sex education and the National Curriculum). Religious Education is a statutory subject of the basic curriculum whilst not being part of the National Curriculum. RE is not subject to national statutory orders such as national attainment targets, programmes of study and assessment arrangements, instead, it is locally determined.

It is the Local Authority which has the responsibility for devising the Syllabus used for RE in the maintained schools in its locality.
The local authority is advised by a Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education (SACRE) which convenes an Agreed Syllabus Conference to review the Syllabus every five years.

The current Syllabus is being reviewed during 2016/17 and 2017/18 (academic years), with the Syllabus set to be finalised by Summer 2018.

Each school is to be sent a copy of the Revised Agreed Syllabus and an electronic copy will be placed onto the secure section of our website once the Syllabus is finalised.

n the first instance, for queries relating to the SACRE syllabus please contact Natalie Gandy (Democratic Services Officer and Clerk to the Bedford Borough SACRE) on 01234 228256 or Natalie.gandy@bedford.gov.uk
