When the officer collects a dog they will
check to see if it is microchipped or, as required by law, has a
collar with the owners name and address on a tag. If this is
the case it will be returned to the owner. If there are no details
or the microchip cannot be read, or the dog has strayed before then
it will be taken to the kennels.
If a dog that is microchipped persistently
strays then it will be taken to the kennels and the owner will need
to pay any costs which are incurred through this before the dog is

Under the Microchipping of Dogs
(England) Regulations 2015 it will be a legal requirement
for owners to microchip their dogs and keep the registered details

If you find a dog straying outside of office
hours then please contact our Out of Hours Service on 01234 267422,
Stray dogs will be kept at the kennels for 7 days. After this
time they will begin the re-homing process. If you collect
your dog from the kennels during this period you will have to pay a
statutory fee of £25 and any costs incurred from the kennel before
your dog will be released.
