Food Export

Food manufacturers may wish to export their food products to other countries for sale. Many countries have restrictions regarding what can be imported, and there may also be requirements for food being sold in that country. It is the responsibility of the person exporting the food to ensure that all the relevant restrictions and requirements are complied with.

You should contact the embassy or consulate of the country you wish to export to. They will be able to provide you with information regarding any import restrictions for that country.

Food Export Health Certificates

Many countries outside the EU require imported food to be accompanied by a food export health certificate. This certifies that the food has been produced in a premises which complies with the legislation of the UK.

Should you require a food export health certificate then please contact the Commercial Regulation Team on 01234 718099 or ehadmin@bedford.gov.uk with the following information:

  • Description of the goods to be exported and the quantity;
  • Consignee name and address;
  • Method of transport;
  • Date to be loaded.

There is a charge for issuing food export health certificates.
