Safer Food Better Business
Food hygiene regulations require that every
food business looks at how they handle food and introduce
procedures to ensure the food produced is safe to eat.
The Food Standards Agency have developed the
Safer Food Better Business packs which will help small businesses
to put in place food safety management procedures and comply with
Whilst there is no legal requirement to
complete one of these packs, having a Safer Food Better Business
pack fully completed and maintained will ensure that you are
complying with the requirements of the food hygiene
Packs are available for different types of
food businesses (retail, catering, childminders, Chinese and
Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan cuisines) and can be
ordered free of charge from Food Standards Agency publications on

The packs can also be downloaded from the Food Standards Agency website
Once it has been completed, the Safer Food
Better Business pack can be used to train new staff members on the
procedures at your food business. It should also be kept at the
business so that staff can consult it for guidance should something
During a routine food hygiene inspection of
the premises, or a visit to investigate a complaint, your Safer
Food Better Business pack will be reviewed and the officer may
offer advice and guidance regarding any changes or improvements
which may be required.
