Wasps and Bees

Wasps can be a problem if they nest on, in or near houses and thereby present a hazard to the occupiers. In these circumstances, the Council offers a service to destroy the nest, providing it is reasonably accessible.  This can be done by contacting the Pest Control service on 01234 718060.

A charge will be made for the treatment. Please click here for the relevant charges The nest itself will not be removed as they are never re-occupied.

Wasps nests in other locations can be treated if they present a hazard to the public, for example if they are near public footpaths.

There are many types of bee found in the wild – bumble bees, masonry bees, honey bees for example. They are not usually a hazard to humans if they are left alone. Some types of bee swarm in certain circumstances. These are temporary situations and the swarm will move on within a short while. Sometimes swarms cause problems because they take place close to human activity, for example in a garden or at a school. Swarms can be collected by experienced bee-keepers, and the Pest Control Officer has details of local people.
