Complaints regarding aircraft noise may arise from commercial
air traffic, light aircraft using Cranfield airfield, helicopters,
or military operations.
The Local Authority is unable to take any action relating to noise
from commercial air traffic. The noise output from these aircraft
is controlled by construction regulations and restrictions on
movements, and is only usually a problem to residents on the
approach to major airports.
If you are regularly disturbed by noise from light aircraft, you
should refer your concerns in writing to the Air Traffic Control at
Cranfield Airfield. They will advise you if anything can be done.
Tel. 01234 754761. Further advice can be obtained from the Aviation
Environment Federation, High Timber Street, London EC4V 3NS, Tel.

Helicopter noise can possibly be controlled if it originates
regularly from a private property. Planning restrictions may apply,
and noise made by the aircraft whilst on the ground, for example
during engine testing, may constitute a statutory nuisance. The
Environmental Health Unit can give you further advice and help
regarding this. You may also wish to contact the British Helicopter
Advisory Board, Fairoaks Airport, Woking, Surrey, Tel. 01276
The Local Authority has no powers to investigate complaints
regarding noise from military aircraft. You could contact London
Military on 0207 218 6020 for assistance.
