12th December 2016: Orange
sacks for the festive period
To encourage as much recycling as possible over Christmas and
New Year residents can collect 10 free orange sacks from the
following locations, between 12th December 2016 -
6th January 2017:
Bedford Central Library, Putnoe Library, Wootton Library,
Bromham Library, Kempston Town Library, the Customer Service Centre
(Horne Lane, Bedford), and the Household Waste Recycling Centre
(Barkers Lane, Bedford).
Some Parish Council’s will also have a supply of orange sacks to
distribute to their villages, please contact your local Parish by
searching for them online.
Orange sacks can be filled with all of your extra recycling
(such as gift wrapping, boxes, cards) and put out next to your
orange lidded recycling bin for collection.
November 2016: Garden Waste
The last garden waste collections of
the year will take place over the next few weeks and the service
will stop for this year on 30th November; collections will resume
in March next year.

14th March 2016: Recycling Site -
Sainsbury's Clapham Road
Sainsbury’s are taking control of
their recycling sites across the UK, as a result Bedford Borough
Council will be removing the recycling containers which are
currently at Sainsbury's, Clapham Road. This will be
taking place over Thursday 17th and Friday 18th March.
Please do not leave any recycling
onsite, please use an alternative location until the new

22nd January 2016: A 60% bigger
Residents of Bedford Borough recycled
60% more real Christmas trees this year (17 tons)
compared to last year (10.5 tons) – that’s an extra 6.5 tons of
Each year, Bedford Borough Council encourages
residents to recycle their real Christmas trees via the popular New
Year Christmas tree recycling service.
In total, there were eight sites across the
borough, from 2nd - 10th January 2016, which
received the trees for recycling purposes.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said:
“We know people in Bedford Borough are always keen to recycle what
they can, but a 60% increase even exceeded our expectations. The
Christmas tree recycling service offers residents a really easy and
sustainable way of disposing of real trees, and we want to thank
everyone who made use of it this year.”
12th January 2016: Let's Sort
Recycling is easy so let’s sort it!
Remember to put all of your recycling in the orange lidded bin
loose – no bags or black sacks please. Please do not put your mixed dry recycling in
black waste sacks as our collection crews can't identify what is in

downgraded, and may also pose risk to those sorting the recycling.

17th December 2015: Household Waste
Recycling Centre - Opening Times
Please note: the Household
Waste Recycling Centre will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day
and New Years Day. The site will close at 1pm on Christmas Eve and
New Years Eve.
