22nd January 2016: A 60% bigger 'Thank you'Christmas tree

Residents of Bedford Borough recycled 60% more real Christmas trees this year (17 tons) compared to last year (10.5 tons) – that’s an extra 6.5 tons of Christmas trees!

Each year, Bedford Borough Council encourages residents to recycle their real Christmas trees via the popular New Year Christmas tree recycling service.

In total, there were eight sites across the borough, from 2nd - 10th January 2016, which received the trees for recycling purposes.

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “We know people in Bedford Borough are always keen to recycle what they can, but a 60% increase even exceeded our expectations. The Christmas tree recycling service offers residents a really easy and sustainable way of disposing of real trees, and we want to thank everyone who made use of it this year.”

12th January 2016: Let's Sort It!

Recycling is easy so let’s sort it! Remember to put all of your recycling in the orange lidded bin loose – no bags or black sacks please. Please do not put your mixed dry recycling in black waste sacks as our collection crews can't identify what is in them.

Putting the wrong items into your orange bin or sack could lead to a whole load of good quality recycling being downgraded, and may also pose risk to those sorting the recycling. To keep up to date with the items you can recycle visit www.bedford.gov.uk/mybins
