Bath Safety alert

Child Accident Prevention Trust

National warning on use of bath seats for babies and toddlers

Public Health England (PHE) has issued an urgent alert on bath safety, and especially the use of bath seats, following a series of deaths and near misses reported by London's Child Death Overview Panels (CDOPs).

Bath seats have been implicated in each case, and according to reports, one in three deaths from accidental drowning in children aged 0-2 involve bath seats.

Supervision of your child in the bath at all times is crucial, even when using a bath seat.

  • Stay with your baby all the time when they’re in the bath, even if there is an older brother or sister in the bath with them.
  • Remember that bath seats aren’t safety devices – babies can wriggle free of them.

The NHS provides guidance on washing and bathing your baby, as well as other tips and advice for expectant parents.

Disrespect NoBody campaign

The second phase of the Home Office Disrespect Nobody campaign will run from 2 February until the end of March 2017.

The aim of the Disrespect NoBody campaign is to prevent young people, both boys and girls aged 12 to 18 years old from becoming perpetrators and victims of abusive relationships.

For 2017 the focus of the campaign will be consent and sexting, which are both issues where many young people need more education and information. The campaign advertising directs young people to the website www.disrespectnobody.co.uk where they can get further information and signposts them to organisations who can provide support.
