British Red Cross Home from Hospital Service
The support at home service provides help to
adults who, following a stay in hospital, need a little assistance
in regaining their independence. The service is free to
anyone registered with a Bedford Borough GP.
The support given includes: transport home
from hospital and resettlement (ensuring that the home is safe and
warm and that there is adequate food for the first 24 hours); a
wellbeing check within 24 hours of discharge from hospital;
essential shopping and prescription collection;
companionship/emotional support; helping to prepare light
meals/snacks, accompanied walks or other activities; information on
other services; provision of mobility aids equipment.

Care professionals, other organisations, the service user or their
The service is generally provided between 9 am
– 5 pm Monday to Friday. However, in some circumstances,
visits can be made during the early evening and at weekends.
