Access Bedford

Access Bedford (registered charity number 1162947) is a small charity set up and run by volunteers since 2014 with the aim to work with the D/deaf and hard of hearing community to make Bedford Borough more accessible.   Access Bedford's priorities are to:

 

1. Share information with the D/deaf Community

Newsletter every month to 200+ people, email updates, Facebook, Twitter, face to face, fact sheets online, conferences and our annual Deaf Day in May with stands, stalls, prizes and information on deaf topics.

 

2. Run events with the D/deaf Community

Young at Heart for over 55s once a month, Socials every two months, Deaf Ball every November , Quiz Night every two months plus one off events like boat trips, spring walks, picnics and more!

 

3. Improve services with and for the D/deaf Community

Supporting services to develop D/deaf accessible services e.g. deafhelp email at the Police/Hospital, deaf awareness training for teams and services, annual conference for professionals (2015 on education, 2016 on mental health, 2017 on dementia), providing information, advice and guidance to services
