Rovigo

Rovigo is a town of 58,000 inhabitants to the south west of Venice in Italy between the longest Italian rivers Adige and the Po. It is one of the seven principal provincial towns in the Region.

Rovigo is the home of the ‘Accademia dei Concordi’, which has a gallery with over two hundred works, including paintings by Giovanni Bellini and Palma il Vecchio e Piazzetta. It is also the home of a branch of the University of Padua and the Museum of Great Rivers (housed in a former Olivetan monastery) and above all "La Rotonda" Church, an octagonal plan church built in 1594 that houses the beautiful "Virgin with Child" fresco. In the very centre of the town stand the ruins of the Castle (10th Century), or which two towers remain.

Rovigo’s Rugby Club is one of the most prestigious in Italy. They have an impressive record in the Series A of Italian Rugby as well as titles for the youth teams. Over the years many international players and support staff have played and worked for Rovigo Rugby Club.

In August 2002 a delegation of six young Rovigo players came to Bedford, the return trip took place in the Easter season of 2003.

In 2010 a group of young rugby players from Rovigo visited Bedford.  Read the report of their visit here
